vintage candles

Every year, I have that go-to gift.
The one that I can give to the music teachers, the swim coaches, the hostess gift, etc.
This year's go-to gift is a vintage-inspired candle.
I always love a good deal. They scream my name.
Michaels: 3 candles for $10.... beckoned me to come buy them and I did. The Sugar Cookie Candle.
Bought 6 of them.
Peeled off the cheesy tag and pulled out all of my supplies that I already had in my craft stash.
 Step 1:
Slice a piece of brown craft paper. Did I measure it? No. Was it even? No. That is how I roll.
Mod Podge a layer of glue on the candle.
Work that craft paper around. Mod Podge over it. Remember... it dries clear!
See how mine is uneven. No biggie. Embellishments went all over that imperfection.
 Step 2: Doilie + stamps= personalization
I had to slice my doilie a smidge since it was bigger than the candle.
Step 3: Find that imperfect/bumpy/uneven spot and put your stamped doilie there. Mod Podge on top.
 Step 4: Embellishments
I am in love with my Martha Stewart Butterfly punch. With the leftover craft paper, I punched out some whimsical butterflies for some depth and dimension.
Folded a butterfly in half.
 Hot glue in the center.
Put a handful at an angle on an imperfect spot.
Glue gun any more embellishments you can think of: buttons, sparkles, craft tags... whatever goes.
Step 5: Add the ribbon or fabric or burlap.
Again, I just free-cut a strip. It was going to shred and fray anyways and it adds to the rustic look of it.

Voila. I paired this with a Starbucks card and we had some happy swim coaches yesterday.
What is your go-to gift this year?
