But, recently, I have been known to read something called...... a book!
Shocking, I know.
I joined a book club and am motivated and now, assigned to read different genres.
Part of the motivation to complete the assignment is to be adequately prepared for the Book Club get togethers. I am a pleaser that way.
January was my month to choose the book and put on the Book Club Night.
My choice was: Black Heels to Tractor Wheels by Ree Drummond. aka: The Pioneer Woman.
Let me just be honest here.
I chose this book for 3 reasons:
1. I love PW. Love her blog. Love her cookbook. So, won't I love her book?
2. I wanted to have an all-out rancher themed food-binge complete with country music.
3. I wanted to pretend that I am leaving the So Cal concrete jungle for the prairie.
So, I brought PW to my So Cal hood. It was PW love fest. Her food, her books, her blog, her show.
Oh yes, and country music.
Without further ado... I present the feast:
tomato basil pizza, artichoke dip (from the cookbook)
chocolate sheet cake, flat apple pie (from the cookbook), blueberry crumb cake
Decor:
My great-grandma's red check tablecloth, burlap accents, mason jars filled with daisies all jammed in an old Pepsi crate.
If you have not made her crust, please stop what you are doing right now and make it.Trust me. It will rock your world.
My husband's favorite pizza topping on her crust: sausage, mushrooms, roasted bell peppers.
Other highlights:
Janna came donning her rad boots.
I chose beverages purely based on labels.
Some ladies had never seen her cookbook, the close-up shot of Marlboro Man or her blog.
I was happy to introduce these essentials to the ladies.
If you have not read Black Heels to Tractor Wheels, please do so.
Throughout her story, you will find a situation that you can relate to in some way.
All of the book club ladies, loved her conversational style, her sense of humor, her observations and her journey.
It really makes you want to be an "Accidental Country Girl."
Even us "Real" housewives in the OC.
